What: If you hear reports Tuesday morning that one ambulance after another is traveling on I-90 in Elgin, we can explain. Sherman Health is opening a new hospital on the west side of Elgin and will transfer more than 100 patients via ambulance from downtown Elgin to Randall Road on Route 25, Route 31 and I-90. The new hospital is at Randall and Big Timber, just south of I-90.
When: Starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009
Where: Sherman will use 15 ambulances and two routes to move patients and medical equipment from 934 Center St. to 1425 N. Randall Road. The ambulances will use the reverse routes to return to Center Street to pick up more patients. The routes are detailed below.

Hospital Details: The new hospital features spacious private rooms, some of the most advanced medical equipment in the Chicago area, an energy-efficient, 15-acre geothermal lake that heats and cools the facility, and a one-of-a-kind architectural wonder called the Tree of Life in the entrance.
