Elgin, Ill. — Sherman Health is less than one week away from opening its new Sherman Hospital at 1425 N. Randall Road. Sherman will move patients and medical equipment from its Center Street facility to the Randall Road hospital starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15. Here is some important information about the transition and how it will affect Elgin-area residents.
The new Sherman Hospital, including the emergency department, starts accepting patients as of 7 a.m. Dec. 15. If people are in need of hospital services and can transport themselves, go to the new location on the corner of Big Timber and Randall roads.
If people are experiencing life-threatening emergencies, always call 9-1-1 first. An ambulance will transport people safely and efficiently to the nearest emergency department. If people have non-life-threatening conditions or illnesses, visit any of the Sherman Family HealthCare Immediate Care centers, including:
- Sherman Family HealthCare—South Elgin: 2000 McDonald Road
- Sherman Family HealthCare—Elgin: 2320 Royal Blvd.
- Sherman Family HealthCare—Algonquin: 600 S. Randall Road
The current facility at 934 Center St. will stop accepting patients at 7 a.m. Dec. 15. At that time the Center Street emergency department also will close to all ambulance traffic.
On the day of the move, people who visit the Center Street campus after 7 a.m. will be briefly evaluated to determine whether or not they need to be transported to the new hospital by ambulance. If not, patients and visitors will be given maps and directions to the new hospital or the closest Immediate Care facility.
All services will be available through either the new hospital or off-site locations. Certain outpatient services, such as lab and X-ray, will not be available on Dec. 15 at either hospital location (934 Center St. or 1425 N. Randall Road). These services can be accommodated at Sherman Family HealthCare centers on Dec. 15, and then routinely at the new hospital location as of Dec. 16.
If patients have appointments with physicians in the 901 or 915 medical office buildings, they can access those buildings on Dec. 15. However, because of the move, the Prospect Street Parking Lot will be closed on Dec. 15, and there will be no valet services available. All patients must park in the Center Street surface lots across from the 901 Medical Office Building. The Prospect Street lot will reopen on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
The 934 Center St. campus will open at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, as a Sherman Family HealthCare facility. It will provide Immediate Care services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Sherman Family HealthCare centers are an excellent alternative to visiting the emergency room for these services:
- fever, vomiting, diarrhea, colds
- minor burns and cuts
- infections or rashes
- fractures
- strains
- general wounds
The Immediate Care services at Sherman Family HealthCare—Center Street will be in the old emergency department, through the Spring Street entrance.
The new 255-bed, 645,000 square-foot hospital features spacious private rooms, some of the most advanced medical equipment in the Chicago area, an energy-efficient, 15-acre geothermal lake that heats and cools the facility, and a one-of-a-kind architectural wonder called the Tree of Life in the entrance.
