Realtors have always wanted to be friendly with their clients, but now some of them really want to be “friended.” They are using interactive social media sites, such as Facebook, to keep in touch with current and past clients.
“Within the past six months, we’ve seen more and more members joining sites, such as Facebook, to extend their relationships with their clients,” said Margery Shinners, deputy CEO for Mainstreet Organization of Realtors® (MORe) based in Downers Grove.
“Facebook is a great way for me to stay on top of what’s going on in my clients’ lives and to keep my name and face in front of past clients,” says Scott Gerami, Broker of Real Time Realty in Naperville and MORe member. “I’ve found that being on Facebook, clients can, and do, easily reach out to me when they have a real estate need.” Gerami also thinks Facebook is useful for learning more about prospective clients so he can tailor information specifically to their needs.
MORe member Eileen Landau of Realty Executives Pro Team in Downers Grove first started blogging five years ago as a means to share information with her customers. “I’m always keeping my eyes open for new ways to reach people, so I blog about what’s going on in the real estate world, both locally and nationally, and provide professional insight.” Landau has found that through reading her blog, her clients become aware that she really knows what she’s talking about and she builds more credible relationships. Landau also is active on LinkedIn, where she answers questions posted within her groups. Her answers have been picked up on Google searches, which provide her free advertising and instant credibility.
Interviews are available now with Shinners, Gerami and Landau. You could also meet nationally known real estate bloggers and talk to some of the 250 members attending MORe’s Competitive Edge Series’ “Social Media Training Camp” on Thursday, February 5, at Bobak’s Signature Events in Woodridge from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Panelists Todd Carpenter of Bizomi.com, Mariana Wagner of WagneriTeam in Southern Colorado, Kelley Koehler of Long Realty in Southern Arizona and Ginger Wilcox of Pacific Union in Marin County, California, will talk about how Realtors can use social networking and viral marketing, manage their online reputations, and optimize their search engine value.
