Lena Parsons works with clients to aclena-parsonshieve their business and communications goals through comprehensive, multifaceted communications campaigns. Lena’s expertise is in the development of campaigns and messages at the intersection of public policy and business goals. She is also a nimble media strategist, working with clients to place positive media stories and develop positive images and beliefs, as well as manage potential media crises.

Past and present clients include a Medicaid HMO provider to persons with disabilities; the Sierra Club of Michigan in collaboration with local environmentalists; a software start up that went on to win major VC funding and media attention by Buzzfeed, Forbes, tech press, and San Francisco media, a medical marijuana cultivator who bid on an Illinois permit in 2014; as well as local public relations and public affairs firms needing freelance help. Agency clients past and present include HACIA, a coalition of manufacturing industry leaders, Google Chicago, BMO Harris and CME Group.

Prior to her current role as a consultant, Lena was a Vice President in the Midwest public affairs practice of Hill+Knowlton Strategies. There she directed campaigns and managed account teams for a variety of clients, including Chicago Parking Meters LLC, CN Railway, Illinois Finance Authority, Health Care Service Corporation, Pioneer Hi-Bred and Walgreens. Her work included developing and conducting crisis media trainings, serving as an on-record spokesperson, managing statewide public policy campaigns and developing message maps.

Lena also has experience in the nonprofit and government sectors, and was a newspaper reporter and copy editor early in her career.

She graduated with degrees in journalism and women’s studies from New Mexico State University. She lives in the western suburbs with her husband and three young children.
